Congratulations on your new kitten!

KITTEN'S FIRST VISIT
Most kittens are adopted at around 6-8 weeks of age and this is the perfect time for his/her first visit to the doctor.  During the first visit your kitten will receive a physical exam to check it's skin, coat, ears, eyes, weight, nose mouth, and body.  At this age the mother's antibodies are beginning to wear off and the kitten should receive vaccinations to protect him/her from diseases such as feline rhinotracheitis, calici, leukemia, plus more.  Your kitten may be dewormed at this time.  We also recommend starting flea prevention at this age.  Microchipping can be done at anytime, but generally recommended when the kitten is spayed or neutered at 6 months of age.   A quality diet ensures a good foundation for health and growth.  We recommended Purina ProPlan or Hill's Science Diet.

WHEN TO TAKE KITTY THE VET
Kittens can get sick or injured easier than adult cats.  Kittens tend to eat things they shouldn't, go places they shouldn't, and do not yet have the immunity to fight off all diseases.  So what warrants a visit to the veterinarian?
  • Vomiting
  • Diarrhea
  • Oozing eyes
  • Runny or congested nose
  • Loss of appetite
  • Increased water consumption
  • Ingestion of a foreign object
  • Injury
  • Behavioral issues
Call as soon as possible to schedule an exam if any of these symptoms are noticed.
