congrats on your new puppy!

PUPPY'S FIRST VISIT
  • Most puppies are adopted at around 6-8 weeks of age and this is the perfect time for his/her first visit to the doctor.
  • During the first visit your puppy will receive a physical exam to check it's skin, coat, ears, eyes, weight, nose mouth, and body.
  • At this age the mother's antibodies are beginning to wear off and the puppy should receive vaccinations to protect him/her from diseases such as parvovirus, distemper, hepatitis, kennel cough, plus more.  Your puppy may be dewormed at this time.
  • We also recommend starting heartworm prevention at this age.  Heartworms are deadly!
  • Microchipping can be done at anytime, but generally recommended when the puppy is spayed or neutered at 6 months of age.
  •  quality diet ensures a good foundation for health and growth.  We recommended Purina ProPlan & Hill's Science Diet.

WHEN TO TAKE PUPPY TO THE VET
Puppies can get sick or injured easier than adult dogs.  Puppies tend to eat things they shouldn't, go places they shouldn't, and do not yet have the immunity to fight off all diseases.  So what warrants a visit to the veterinarian?
  • Vomiting
  • Diarrhea
  • Oozing eyes
  • Loss of appetite
  • Increased water consumption
  • Ingestion of a foreign object
  • Injury
  • Behavioral issues
Call as soon as possible to schedule an exam if any of these symptoms are noticed.
